Barton Stacey Village Fete
We attended this small village event at Barton Stacey near Winchester because a member of the 10th Essex is good friends with the organisers.
Only four of us were in attendance showing the various items of equipment that a solider of the period would wear or use. There was some interest from the public mainly around the weapons of war as well as some interesting stories that we were told. A lot of the stories were from the Second World War but this doesn’t matter to us because behind every story is something interesting.
A lot of people spoke about their time in the National Service and especially using the infamous Lee Enfield SME and the fact that you collar-bone hurt a lot after shooting down the range all day.
All in all it was a good event and sometimes the smaller ones are the best.
Many thanks goes out to our hosts for keeping us supplied in tea and cakes.
